Our History

Wellbridge (formerly Club Sports International) was founded in 1983 in Denver, Colorado and quickly became a leading fitness management company. Wellbridge has managed clubs for some of the country’s top real estate developers, property managers and financial institutions. Wellbridge has also been involved in the development of more than 1.5 million square feet of club facilities, ranging in size from 10,000 square foot corporate fitness centers to 200,000 square foot mega clubs. Its Clubs include full-service spas, sports centers, multi-purpose athletic clubs and hotel gyms.

March 1997

Wellbridge entered into a strategic partnership with two investment firms, Chilmark Partners and Starwood Capital Group, who shared the company’s vision to capitalize on the emerging opportunities in the fitness and wellness market. These two professional investment groups infused this highly successful, entrepreneurial company with investor oversight and new capital to fuel growth plans.

Wellbridge Management acquired the company and continues its legacy of owning and managing premier fitness and health clubs. Through a combination of greenfield development, acquisition strategy and industry expertise, Wellbridge will continue as a predominant operator of upscale athletic clubs in the country.

In the middle of the economic downturn, Wellbridge had the opportunity to open up two new flagship locations in Boulder, CO and Denver, CO. And, as the company has done since inception, it rose to the challenge. These two locations have exceeded expectations for their presence in their respective communities, the industry-leading transformation of the layout and atmosphere in the Club, and their ability to engage more members on a daily basis.

Wellbridge acquired Flatiron Athletic Club to better serve the Boulder, CO market. The Flatiron Athletic Club, a two-story, 45,767 square foot space, expanded the number of Colorado Athletic Clubs to seven. The club is now known as Colorado Athletic Club-Flatirons.

After celebrating the grand opening of CAC-Flatirons in January, Wellbridge continued to make 2015 a memorable year. In early March it was announced Colorado Athletic Club would add its eight location overall (and third downtown) next to revitalized Union Station. Just a few months later the company was thrilled to welcome Maryland Athletic Club’s Harbor East location to the family.

CAC-Union Station opened March 3, ushering in a spectacular new era in fitness.
